AHIMA Scholarships
The AHIMA Foundation offers merit scholarships to outstanding undergraduate students pursuing degrees in health information administration and health information technology. Scholarships are also available to CAHIIM accredited credentialed health information management professionals pursuing graduate degrees in an area related to HIM practice. NYHIMA Scholarships
The Mary M. Zannis Scholarship: One award of $1,000 annually to a student enrolled part-time or full-time in a New York State CAHIIM Accredited Associate or Baccalaureate Program.
ELIGIBILITY
- Applicant must be NYHIMA Dues Paying Member (Students = complimentary membership but needs to be registered with NYHIMA as a student member).
- Applicant must be enrolled either part time or full time in an AHIMA accredited HIA or HIT program in New York State.
- Applicant must have completed 12 credit hours.
- Applicant must have maintained a minimum of 3.0 grade point average.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must submit a report/PowerPoint/video, etc. of 500-750 words to the NYHIMA Central Office no later than May 1st or the date designated by the Awards Committee on the topic: Describe why you are deserving of this award and how you plan to use the scholarship money. This report will be scored by members of the NYHIMA Awards Committee based on adherence to the topic, format compliance (must contain introduction, body, and conclusion), use of original ideas and/or concepts, and coherence and completeness.
APPLICATION MATERIALS
- Official transcripts, grades, modules complete
- Letters of reference/recommendation from any two of the following:
- HIT/HIM instructor,
- professional mentor, or
- supervisor from work
- Valid AHIMA membership ID number
The NYHIMA Student Book / Material Fund Scholarship: Two awards of $300 annually to part-time or full-time students enrolled in a New York State CAHIIM Accredited Associate or Baccalaureate Program.
ELIGIBILITY
- Applicant must be a NYHIMA Dues Paying Member (Students = complimentary membership but needs to be registered with NYHIMA as a student member).
- Applicant must be enrolled either part time or full time in an AHIMA accredited HIA or HIT program in New York State.
- Applicant must have completed 6 credit hours.
- Applicant must have maintained a minimum of 3.0 grade point average.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Applicant must submit a paragraph describing their previously completed HIA/HIT related project.
- This must be submitted to the NYHIMA Central Office no later than May 1st or the date designated by the Awards Committee - Describe the project and how it should be implemented or how it applies to the HIM field. (This may be course work e.g report, project, or Powerpoint that has already been completed but related to an HIM topic)
- This essay will be scored by members of the NYHIMA Awards Committee based on adherence to the topic, format compliance (must contain introduction, body, and conclusion), use of original ideas and/or concepts, and coherence and completeness.
CERTIFICATION MATERIALS
- Official transcripts, grades, modules complete
- Valid AHIMA membership ID number.
The NYHIMA Returning Student Scholarship: One award of $1,000 annually to a student returning to school to advance or transition their career to a new path within the Health Information Management field and enrolled part-time or full-time in a New York State CAHIIM Accredited Associate or Baccalaureate Program.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Applicant must be a NYHIMA Dues Paying Member. Students = complimentary membership but needs to be registered with NYHIMA as a student member.
- Applicants must be enrolled either part-time or full-time in a New York State CAHIIM Accredited Association or Baccalaureate program.
- Applicants must have completed 12 credit hours and maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicant must submit a report/PowerPoint/video, etc. of 500-750 words to the NYHIMA Central Office no later than May 1st or the date designated by the Awards Committee on the topic: “Describe the importance to you of returning to school and what your career goals are."
- This report will be scored by members of the NYHIMA Awards Committee based on adherence to the topic, (must contain introduction, body, and conclusion), use of original ideas and/or concepts, and coherence and completeness.
CERTIFICATION MATERIALS:
- Official transcripts, grades, and modules completed.
- Letters of reference/recommendation from any two of the following:
- HIT/HIM instructor,
- professional mentor, or
- supervisor from work
- Valid AHIMA membership ID number.
